It was many centuries ago that Samarkand, located on the trade caravan routes, became one of the centers of ancient civilization that would serve as the model of historical and cultural traditions the Central Asian peoples. The magnetic force of Samarkand is great. One cannot deny the fact that there are very few towns in the world that are more than twenty five centuries old, that attract people by its beauty and unique appeareance the way that Samarkand does.
Associated with Samarkand are the names of such great fi es as Alexander the Great, the Arab commander Kuteiba ibn Muslim, who once captured the town in battle, the ferocious Genghis - Khan, who turned the town into ruins, and Tamerlane, who created the massive empire that streched from the Volga to Ganges, from the Tien - Shan mountains to Bosfor.
Everyone who visits the town admires the high level of skill and artistic talent of the ancient architects who created such architectural wonders as the Shahi - Zinda ensemble, the BUM - Khanym mosque, and Our-Emir and Shirat-Khana mausoleums. The heart of old Samarkand is surrounded by grand buildings from three sides: Registan Square, which attracts great attention and is considered to be the jewel of the town, the Ulugbek madrasa, and the Sherdor and Tillya -Kari madrasas.

SAMARKAND INSTITUTE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES,,,,,,,,,,,COOOOOOOL

To maintain and consolidate the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, there must be an intelligent and skilled youth. Educating and preparing the youth to be fully developed members of a society is becoming the most important and serious task in the system of higher education. This task should be accomplished by rebuilding the educational system according to world standards and by enabling and equipping teachers to better educate their students in the foreign languages. The Samarkand Foreign Languages Institute was founded for the purposes of intensifying the qualification in the field of foreign languages, and improving the international relations with local companies by providing them with highly qualified specialists.
For this reason, by order of the President of Uzbekistan, on November 8th 1994 and by the decision of Ministers on November 9th, 1994 the Language Faculty of the Samarkand University became the Institute of Foreign Languages. The main mission of the new institute is: training qualified specialists in the field of philology, training language teachers, translators, tour guides, preschool English teachers, creating new intensified language teaching methods and providing a well-organized atmosphere for the students including the equipping of the institute with new modern technology. This newly founded institute has already begun making a great contribution to the academic life of Uzbekistan and its future development. There are six main faculties (schools) working at the Institute now. These are: English, German, French, Tour Guiding, Preschool, English and Teachers' Qualifying faculties. Additionally, there are presently some other languages being taught such as Italian, Arabic, Japanese, Turkish, Korean, and Persian as additional second languages. Since 1995, 1262 young specialists have graduated from Samarkand Institute of Foreign Languages.

Is this your first time in Japan?
Yes, this is my first visit.

Why did you decide to study Japanese Language?

For my future. I would like to be involved in the business dealing with both Uzbekistan and Japan.

How are finding your studies in Japan?
I could see a lot of good senseis (teachers) at the academy. And through the classroom works I have made many good friends.

Are the classes like you expected?
Yes, they have been very much like what I expected.

How do you like Tokyo?
I like Tokyo very much, because Tokyo is a very interesting city.

What do you find most interesting about Tokyo?
I can see things that I could never see in Uzbekistan: for example boys and girls in funny costumes.

How has your experience in Japan changed you if it has?
I tended to think the job situation might be easier in Japan than Uzbekistan. But it looks like Japanese people, especially young people, too, seem to have difficulties in getting jobs.

What is the thing you like most about Tokyo/Japan?
I like almost all Japanese food. I particularly like hamburgers at McDonalds Japan. Besides McDonalds, I really like almost every food in Japan.

Will you come to Japan/Tokyo again?
Yes. Yes. Yes.

What advice/tips would you give to others who plan to come and study in Japan?
I want to advise especially to Muslim people to be aware that we Muslims eat very different food from Japanese people. We can eat beef, but we can not eat pork. But pork is one of Japanese people's favorite foods. We are not supposed to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes as Muslim, but many Japanese people seem to like them a lot.
