SOAD выразили интерес представлять Армению на музыкальном конкурсе "Евровидение 2009", который пройдёт в России. Серж Танкян недавно сказал, что группа возможно выступит на Евровидение в том случае, если "Системе" будет позволено заявить на международном конкурсе о признании Армянского геноцида.
"Евровидение это отличный способ заявить об этом. Мы все должны серьёзно подумать об этой проблеме", сказал Танкян.

System Of A Down — калифорнийская группа, ставшая фундаментальной для новой эпохи в музыке, поразив слушателей своей экзотикой, идеологией, напором. Группа считается одним из самых оригинальных проектов последних лет. System of A Down это не просто популярная группа, это стиль жизни. За этим названием стоят простые ребята, которые добились успеха благодаря трудолюбию и целенаправленности. Если до сих пор вы знали о них только понаслышке, после прочтения этой статьи вы будете знать о них все. Начало — Old School Hollywood

System Of A Down начинают свое вторжение в мир рок музыки в 1996, но участники группы встретились намного раньше.

Вокалист Серж Танкян родился в Бейруте (Ливан), еще в юном возрасте вместе с семьей переехал в Штаты. Отец Сержа, музыкант по профессии, вдохновлял Сержа на занятия музыкой с самого детства.
Ударник Джон Долмаян, как и Серж родился в Ливане, жил некоторое время в Торонто (Канада), затем переехал в Лос-Анджелес.
Гитарист Дарон Малакян родился в Гленделе, армянском районе Лос Анджелеса.
Басист Шаво (Шаварш) Одаджян - единственный участник группы, родившийся в Армении.

Трое из участников группы ходили в одну и ту же Армянскую частную школу в Лос-Анджелесе. Старший по возрасту Серж, окончил школу раньше, чем Шаво и Дарон. Как утверждает Дарон, впечатления, полученные во время обучения в армянской школе, повлияли на его перевернутую личность.

Джон учился в другой, но то же Армянской школе, из которой его в последствии исключили.

Рождение — Victims Of A Down

Группа была создана в 1995 на основе распавшейся группы SOIL, в которой играли Серж, Дарон, а также Энди (Андраник) Хачатурян, который после распада SOIL собирает группу THE APEX THEORY. Так вот, именно тогда Серж и Дарон приглашают басиста Шаво, которого они знали по школе, в свой новый состав. Позже к ним присоединился Джон.

Название группы произошло от поэмы VICTIMS OF A DOWN, которую написал Дарон. Слово VICTIMS было заменено на SYSTEM, как на более выразительное.

Так родилась группа SYSTEM OF A DOWN.

SOAD Team

Ключевым фактором, который помог SYSTEM OF A DOWN в ранние года (1995), было появление так называемых «Уличных Команд» — Фан-групп поддержки, которые распространяли между своими друзьями записи новых групп. Также важную роль сыграл первый веб сайт группы — как универсальный способ распространения новостей о группе и новых записей. Именно благодаря Интернету, SYSTEM OF A DOWN удалось создать постоянную и верную группу поддержки. Поклонники считали своим долгом помогать любимой группе всем чем только возможно.

У поклонников была возможность общаться с членами группы, что служило большим стимулом. Все они чувствовали себя частью одной команды — Команды SOAD. Группе удалось собрать целую армию поклонников, которые бегали по улицам распространяя флаеры и бесплатные демо кассеты. В результате «уличные команды» переросли в настоящую сеть по всей территории США.
Все это было результатом продуманной до малейших деталей стратегии. Важную роль сыграли первые три демо кассеты, которые были сделаны настолько аккуратно, что больше походили на мини альбомы.

SOAD распространяли свои записи по всем местным музыкальным магазинам. Сейчас эти записи стали настоящим раритетом и стоят немалых денег в кругах поклонников.

После первых интервью на местных радиостанциях популярность SOAD заметно возросла.

Как получить Контракт Армянским Способом.

Следующим шагом для SYSTEM OF A DOWN было привлечение внимания крупных студий звукозаписи.

Одним из способов добиться этого были выступления в популярных клубах Лос-Анджелеса. Попасть в такие клубы было нелегко, ведь основная цель клубов — получение прибыли с продажи билетов и выпивки. Армия местных поклонников SYSTEM OF A DOWN, была завидной и надежной гарантией к успешному выступлению молодой группы в таких клубах.


Кроме этого, SOAD всегда могли рассчитывать на свою «армянскую группу поддержки», а это как минимум 150 человек. Ничто не могло помешать этим поклонникам прийти на концерт. Даже родители и родственники участников группы постоянно приходили на их концерт для поддержки.

Благодаря SYSTEM OF A DOWN в Лос-Анджелесе стало модно иметь армянские корни: если ты живешь в Лос-Анджелесе и ты — армянин, значит ты наверняка знаком с группой.

В конце концов SYSTEM OF A DOWN добились выступления в одном из самых знаменитых клубов. После двух успешных выступлений двери всех лучших клубов перед ними были распахнуты.

В клубе Viper Room группу впервые увидел легендарный продюсер Рик Рубин, который работал со SLAYER и RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.
Почти синхронно с Риком Рубином контракты группе предложили несколько крупнейших студий звукозаписи.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN не спешили подписывать контракт, тактично пытаясь увеличить свою популярность в глазах звукозаписывающих компаний. В результате они стали для них самой желанной группой.

В 1997 группа подписывает контракт со студией Рика Рубина — American Records. В 1998 SYSTEM OF A DOWN выпускают свой первый альбом. Этот релиз считается прорывом в мире рок музыки. После выхода альбома SOAD участвуют в совместном турне со SLAYER, а так же выступают на фестивале OZZFEST в 1999.

Армянский Фактор.

Почти во всех интервью всегда затрагиваются армянские корни SYSTEM OF A DOWN и вопрос о геноциде армян в Османской Империи в 1915 году.

Возможно это еще один фактор, отличающий SYSTEM OF A DOWN от всех остальных в глазах прессы.

Они заявляют о себе как представители «Армянского Метала», выражение, которое обычно вызывает улыбку, ведь само по себе такое понятие не существует.

Существующая в современной Армении рок сцена, до сих пор находится в «глубочайшем андеграунде» и известна очень узкому кругу местных любителей этой музыки. Рок музыка не приветствовалась большинством армян, исходя из чрезмерно консервативных взглядов. Большинство современной армянской молодежи слушают реп или же вообще не увлекаются музыкой.


Безусловно, в какой то мере, армянская музыка оказала влияние на творчество группы. Дарон заявил, что он вырос на музыке Dead Kennedys и Kiss, одновременно увлекаясь такими армянскими исполнителями как Арут Памбукчян (он же Дзах Арут).

Успех SYSTEM OF A DOWN становится стимулом для роста популярности рок музыки среди армянской молодежи.

Eating Seeds as a pass time activity….

После успеха первого альбома Дарон начинает готовить новые материалы. В феврале 2001 года SOAD начинают работу в студии над вторым альбомом. Рик Рубин повторно выступает в роли продюсера. SOAD пробуют экспериментировать в разных направлениях. В результате у них собирается большое количество не вошедших в альбом материалов, которые они собираются позже включить в бонусы, синглы, сборники и саундтрэки.

В записи нового альбома принимает участие мультиталантливый армянский музыкант Арто Тунджбояджян, который к тому времени уже был хорошо известен в мире джаз музыки и работал со многими легендами джаза.

Второй альбом SYSTEM OF A DOWN — Toxicity выходит в сентябре 2001. Этот альбом становится хитом международного уровня. Миллионы вышедших в продажу копий альбома поднимают SYSTEM OF A DOWN на самые верхушки мировых чартов.

Очередная ирония судьбы, день триумфа SYSTEM OF A DOWN совпадает с днем трагедии 11 сентября 2001. Именно в этот день SYSTEM OF A DOWN занимает первое место в музыкальных чартах США.

В некоторых песнях даже угадывается пророчество трагедии (например, песня Jet Pilot), но группа категорически отвергает такие мнения. Сразу после выхода нового альбома SYSTEM OF A DOWN отправляются в мировое турне в его поддержку. После возвращения домой, SYSTEM OF A DOWN и радиостанция KROQ решают провести бесплатный концерт в Голливуде, недалеко от Армянского района, с целью выражения своей благодарности поклонникам.

Концерт широко рекламируется, в результате вместо ожидаемых 3 тысяч зрителей приходят 10 тысяч. Никто не ожидал такого количества людей и власти Лос-Анджелеса решают запретить этот концерт. Разъяренная толпа, обвиняя во всем организаторов концерта, разгромила всю сцену и аппаратуру.

Серж обвиняет власти в том, что они не позволили им выйти и попытаться объяснить причины отмены концерта. Об этом он пишет в письме своим поклонникам, опубликованном на страницах официального сайта SYSTEM OF A DOWN.

Путь SOAD

SYSTEM OF A DOWN продолжают свою деятельность, развивая то, чего они достигли. Новые альбомы это все то же логическое продолжение их старого пути, который они выбрали в 1995. Они до сих пор выходят на улицы и свободно общаются с поклонниками, и не только в США.

Часто участники группы приезжают в Армению с целью отдохнуть и поднять боевой дух ждущих их там фанатов, чтобы помочь посаженному ими злаку взойти. Всемирная «команда СОАД» будет увеличиваться, а нас ждут новые концерты и новые альбомы.
