Ярчайшая звезда финской рок-сцены, сопрано Тарья Турунен, за короткое время стала одним из самых узнаваемых финских лиц в мире музыки.

Турунен, которая родилась 17 августа 1977 года в Китее (Финляндия), начала учиться музыке с 6-ти лет, и продвинулась в изучении классического пения в 18 лет в Академии им. Яна Сибелиуса в городе Куопио.
В то же время, школьный товарищ Тарьи Туомас Холопайнен начал свой акустический проект, и пригласил Турунен присоединиться к группе. Тарья приняла приглашение, и таким образом родилась группа Nightwish.

Всё это было выпущено под названием "From Wishes to Eternity - Live", и каждый формат был продан огромным тиражом, получив "золото" в Финляндии за CD-формат, и "золото" в Германии за DVD-формат.

Перед тем как создать свой следующий полноформатный альбом, группа выпустила Mini-CD "Over the Hills And Far Away", который быстро распродался "платиновым" тиражом в Финляндии и достиг дважды "платинового" статуса в их родной стране. После "Over the Hills and Far Away"-EP группа начала работать над своим четвертым полноформатным студийным альбомом "Century Child", но в то время как группа записывала альбом, Тарья решила продвинуться на шаг вперед в своей вокальной практике, поступив в Музыкальный Университет в Карлсруэ (Германия).

Несмотря на плотный учебный график в Карлсруэ, Тарья сумела найти время не только на запись своего вокала для "Century Child", но и также и на запись вокала для альбома "Infinity" аргентинского бас-гитариста Бето Вазкеза, который немедленно достиг успеха по всему миру с релизами на Дальнем Востоке, России, всей Европе и Южной Америке, выдающееся достижение для группы только из-за связи с именем Тарьи.

После нескольких концертов в Германии, Тарья также совершает турне по классическим сценам Южной Америки в Чили и Аргентине, представляя лид-концерт "Noche Escandinava" [Скандинавская ночь] вместе с Марьют Паавилайнен, Инвильд Сторх и Изуми Кавакацу.
Распроданные концерты, которые спонсировались Посольством Финляндии, Германии, Японии, Норвегии и Правительством Города Буэнос-Айреса, принесли в Южную Америку песни Яна Сибелиуса, Туре Рангстрома, Лееви Мадетойя, Оскара Мериканто, Хьюго Вульфа, Ричарда Штраусса, Густава Махлера, Йоханнеса Брамса, Феликса Мендельссона, представленные Тарьей Турунен, образуя особую связь между Тарьей и зрителями, которые увидят её позже снова, совершенствующую свою классическую карьеру в этих странах.

Четвертый альбом Nightwish "Century Child" вышел весной 2002 года, и был продан тиражом около 250.000 копий по всему миру. Выход альбома продолжился грандиозым турне "World Tour of the Century", который продлился три месяца, и проходил в 10-ти странах по всему миру, где группа представила 25 концертов перед 150.000 зрителей.

Изнурённые мировым турне, Nightwish приняли решение о том, чтобы сделать большой перерыв, чтобы дать участникам группы время для самих себя. Большинство участников группы быстро были привлечены в несколько сайд-проектов, а Тарья уехала обратно в Карлсруэ, чтобы продолжить свою учёбу.

И снова огромный спрос на большее количество концертов подвинул группу на 2 дополнительных выступления в качестве хэдлайнеров для 15.000 человек на Oberhausen Arena и Münich в январе 2003 года.
Когда официальный перерыв был окончен, Nightwish отправились в тур "Summer of Innocence", стартовавший в июне 2003 года. Позади остались 14 стран и 400.000 глаз, что стали свидетелями тех невероятных вечеров.

После огромного количества турне в руках у группы оказалось невероятное количество хорошего отснятого материала. Документальный фильм был очевидным выбором, когда было запланировано использование этого материала, но группа чувствовала, что было необходимо что-то ещё, чтобы поддержать различные сцены турне.

Ответ был найден, когда финский музыкальный журналист Мапэ Оллила, который тесно работал с группой с самого начала её существования, попросил Туомаса о подробном интервью. Туомас согласился, и затем интервьюеры отправились в летний дом Туомаса вместе с участниками и остальной командой Nightwish.

С интервью, объединённым с остальным материалом, результатом стал документальный фильм длиной 2 часа 15 минут, который рассказывает историю группы их словами, от самого начала до настоящего момента.
Новый DVD "End Of Innocence" был выпущен в октябре 2003 года по всему миру.

С этой точки зрения год уже был очень успешным для Тарьи, но он был несомненно увенчан приглашением, полученным от Президента Финляндии Тарьи Халонен и её мужа Др. Араярви, присутствовать в Президентском Дворце на праздновании Дня независимости Финляндии, самом важном светском событии страны, которое проходит каждый год.

Тарья Турунен достигла нового статуса, когда официальный сайт Yle TV Station назвал её "Самой впечатляюще одетой женщиной" согласно выбору зрителей. Также основные финские ежедневные газеты Ilta Lehti и Ilta Sanomat присудили ей номинацию "Королева Ночи" и "Вторая самая впечатляюще одетая женщина" соответственно.
Многие журналы и газеты отразили этот новый упомянутый статус в своих публикациях в следующем месяце с полным национальным охватом издания.

Чтобы закончить удивительный год, 19 декабря 2003 Тарья Турунен представила после 3-х лет личный Рождественский Концерт. Маленькая церковь Валькеалы пригласила 600 человек, которые встали, чтобы вернуть тёплые аплодисменты артистке, после 60-ти минут традиционной финской музыки от Сибелиуса, Котилайнена и Мелартина, а также нескольких арий от Баха и Моцарта.

Nightwish начали запись нового студийного альбома, а Тарья Турунен после записи своих партий отправилась в Буэнос-Айрес (Аргентина), чтобы поделиться своим голосом, организовав на этот раз месячный вокальный курс для уже подготовленных музыкантов.

Весной 2004 года Тарья отправилась во второй тур Noche Escandinava по Чили, Аргентине, Бразилии и Румынии. В этом же году на Рождество она выпускает сингл "Yhden Enkelin Unelma" [Мечта Одного Ангела], который продаётся 'золотым' тиражом в её родной стране Финляндии.

Весной 2005 года Тарья готовилась к сотрудничеству с немецким исполнителем Мартином Кесичи, записав в дуэте с ним песню "Leaving You For Me", а также снявшись в одноимённом видео.

Осенью 2005 года Тарья приняла участие в записи композиции вместе с Christopher Von Deylen, идейным вдохновителем SCHILLER. Она исполнила песню "Tired Of Being Alone", а также выступила соавтором музыки.

22 октября 2005 года после концерта на Hartwall Arena в Хельсинки, завершающего грандиозное мировое турне в поддержку альбома ONCE, Тарья получает открытое письмо от остальных участников Nightwish, в котором говорилось, что она больше не является вокалисткой Nightwish, и обвинялась в "измененной позиции" и возросших финансовых интересах. Она ответила другим открытым письмом на своём веб-сайте.
